The "Saint Seiya Myth Cloth EX" series, launched by BANDAI SPIRITS under Japan's Bandai and beloved by many toy collectors, is set to release the character "Thanatos, the God of Death" (タナトス) from the original work's "Hades Chapter", with an anticipated release in January 2023.
Thanatos is one of the Twin Gods who appeared in the Elysium Chapter, presiding over death while Hypnos governs sleep. He bears a hexagram symbol on his forehead (though in the anime, it became a pentagram like Hypnos, and this product follows the anime). Both Thanatos and Hypnos possess immense power, but Thanatos is more impulsive and hot-headed, and excessively arrogant, looking down on humans, believing he can easily take anyone's life at will.
After destroying the Gold Cloths, Thanatos ignited Seiya's fighting spirit, leading Seiya to don the God Cloth, which possesses power equal to that of a god. Ultimately, Thanatos was no match for Seiya and was defeated by the Pegasus Suisei Ken (Pegasus Comet Fist). Even in his dying moments, he remained bewildered by his defeat at the hands of a human, despite being a god.
This Saint Seiya Myth Cloth EX Thanatos, God of Death, also incorporates the new "EX METAL" body, significantly improving its overall appearance and articulation. It comes with four interchangeable facial expression parts, including hair accessories for when the mask is removed. Similar to Hypnos, the white robe worn during his first appearance is faithfully recreated with fabric material. Additionally, it includes Thanatos's beloved harp, and a mini figure of young Pandora holding Hades, which appeared in Ikki's flashback scene in the original work.
