World-renowned TV and film special effects company "WETA Workshop" recently announced a new addition to their Figures of Fandom series from "The Lord of the Rings": the "Saruman The White" 1/8 scale PVC pre-painted figure! Shipping is estimated for Q1 2023.
Saruman, like Gandalf, is a "Maia." His original mission was to secretly assist in the fight against the forces of the Dark Lord, but he gradually fell into darkness due to his desire for greater power. In addition to his formidable magical abilities, Saruman's penetrating and influential voice and his knowledge in scientific fields were also major weapons. For instance, Saruman created his own Uruk-hai army, invented explosives, built the great dam at Isengard, and developed mechanical devices, among other things. In the films, Saruman could even use magic and his voice to cause avalanches, attacking the Fellowship of the Ring from thousands of miles away.
This piece stands approximately 25.7 cm tall and is based on the scene from "The Fellowship of the Ring" where Saruman stands atop the Tower of Orthanc, conjuring a fierce storm to attack the Fellowship of the Ring. It captures Saruman's pose as he holds his staff and incants spells towards the sky, faithfully recreating the facial contours of the late Sir Christopher Lee. The dynamic flow and folds of his intensely billowing robes, along with the rich sculpted details, are meticulously rendered, making it full of tension from every angle! Around the main body, one can also see black birds soaring with outstretched wings, echoing Saruman's character design of controlling birds as his spies.
