Bandai Spirits' popular soft vinyl toy series, 『MOVIE MONSTER』, recently announced the latest products from "Kamen Rider BLACK SUN": "Kamen Rider BLACK SUN" and "Kamen Rider SHADOWMOON", slated for release in October and November 2022, respectively.
Scheduled for exclusive broadcast on Amazon Prime Video in Autumn 2022, 《Kamen Rider BLACK SUN》 is part of the 50th-anniversary project for Japan's popular tokusatsu series "Kamen Rider". With the theme of returning to its origins, it re-imagines the popular 1987 series "Kamen Rider BLACK", presenting the cruel fate and sorrowful story of brothers Kotaro Minami and Nobuhiko Akizuki through director Kazuya Shiraishi's fresh perspective. Popular and highly acclaimed actors Hidetoshi Nishijima and Tomoya Nakamura are cast as the two lead characters of this new generation.
The character designs for Kamen Riders and monsters in the series were discussed by Kazuya Shiraishi, Shinji Higuchi, Kiyotaka Taguchi, and others, with the final designs completed by PLEX designer Daisuke Kobayashi and his team. Unlike the original BLACK's functional beauty and bio-mechanical aesthetic, Kamen Rider BLACK SUN and SHADOWMOON, while retaining their basic prototypes, incorporate a wealth of more realistic biological features such as monster-like muscle lines, thorns, and carapaces.
The two MOVIE MONSTER products, "Kamen Rider BLACK SUN" and "Kamen Rider SHADOWMOON", are produced at a height of 17 cm as non-articulated soft vinyl figures. Their designs highly reproduce the cool, insect-like features seen in the series, as well as BLACK SUN's jet-black body adorned with red lines and SHADOWMOON's silver-white armor with green lines.
