Japanese figure manufacturer BellFine recently announced the latest product from the popular light novel "Spice and Wolf," the "Holo Hakama Kimono Ver. 1/6 Scale Figure," scheduled for release in February 2023.
"Spice and Wolf" (狼と香辛料) is a light novel series created by Isuna Hasekura. The story, set against a medieval European-inspired backdrop, focuses on economics, trade, and fantasy, depicting the journey of the merchant protagonist Lawrence and the wise wolf Holo, a goddess of harvest. They resolve incidents using experience, wisdom, and even luck, transforming risks into wealth. After two anime adaptations in 2008-2009, and over a decade of waiting, a completely new anime adaptation was finally announced in 2022.
The "Holo Hakama Kimono Ver. 1/6 Scale Figure" released this time, similar to the previously announced Alsace Traditional Costume Ver., is a three-dimensional rendition of a new illustration drawn by artist Jyuu Ayakura for the "Spice and Wolf POP UP SHOP in MAGNET by SHIBUYA109" event held in 2020. Holo, with her gentle smile, is paired with a Taisho Roman-inspired hakama kimono and a paper umbrella. The elegant colors and light-and-shadow variations are expressed through gradient pink paintwork, and cute wheat and apple blossom patterns are reproduced via printing.
The overall atmosphere is even more dynamic than the original illustration. From her proud, fluffy large tail, beautiful brown long hair, and single-footed stance, to the swaying wheat bag and sleeve pockets, all are sculpted with considerable dynamism, showcasing Holo's liveliness and cuteness. The base features a circular platform with carved cobblestone paving.
