Having released numerous classic super robots, featuring "large size" and "articulation" as its selling points, the "GABM" (GRAND ACTION BIGSIZE MODEL) series of toys from Japanese toy company EVOLUTION TOY is scheduled to release the support combination unit for Grendizer, the "Marine Spazer", in January 2023!
The work "UFO Robo Grendizer" (direct translation should be: Grendizer, old translations: Goldrake, Grandizer, known as Grendizer in Hong Kong) was created by the renowned manga artist Go Nagai, who also created "Mazinger Z" (マジンガーZ), and is the third installment in the Mazinger series.
The story follows the protagonist, Prince Duke Fleed of Planet Fleed (フリード). When his home planet is attacked and destroyed by the enemy Vega Alliance Army, he narrowly escapes to Earth. He is rescued by Dr. Umon, director of the Space Science Laboratory, who adopts him, and he takes on the alias Daisuke Umon. Originally intending to live a reclusive life, the enemies unexpectedly attack Earth. Spurred on by Koji, he finally stops running from his trauma, once again pilots his personal machine "Grendizer", and joins Koji and other companions to confront the enemies, thus beginning the story.
▼ The opening theme song for the anime "Grendizer" (UFO Robo Grendizer):
The Marine Spazer (マリンスペイザー) appeared in episode 41 of the original "Grendizer" series. It is the second support unit developed by the Space Science Laboratory for Grendizer, following the "Double Spazer" (ダブルスペイザー). It can both fly and dive, primarily assisting Grendizer, which is not adept at underwater movement. Its pilot is Hikaru Makiba (牧葉ひかる). After combining with Grendizer, it can move freely at depths of up to 400 meters underwater, and Grendizer can use all its weapons without interference. The Marine Spazer's own armaments include missiles, tail wing knives, and beams.
This EVOLUTION TOY Marine Spazer is primarily designed to combine with the GABM series Grendizer that was previously introduced. It has a considerable size and presence on its own. The wings on both sides can be deployed and retracted, and the cockpit allows a glimpse of the pilot, Hikaru Makiba. After combining with Grendizer, the overall presence becomes even more powerful!
