Issued by BANDAI CANDY, the Shokugan business division of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., the "Souzou Galleria" series, which transforms the mecha from Studio Ghibli's fantastical worlds into exquisite collectibles, will re-release the highly sought-after items from "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind": "Glider & Nausicaä (2023 Ver.)" and "Toriuma (Kui, Kai) & Yupa". The suggested retail price is 11,000 JPY, with an estimated release in March 2023.
Released in 1984 and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the classic Japanese animated film "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (Kaze no Tani no Naushika)" tells the story of an advanced industrial civilization that collapsed after the "Seven Days of Fire" war, leaving the surface covered in toxic substances and past civilizations in ruins. A millennium later, the world is covered by the "Sea of Corruption," and the surviving humans can only face the threat of the miasma-emitting Sea of Corruption forest and mutated giant insects in the remaining small territories.
In the world of the film, the crucial mode of transportation supporting daily life – the rideable "Toriuma (Tori-uma)" – is a giant flightless bird that has developed a symbiotic relationship with humans. Possessing high intelligence, its appearance resembles the extinct Gastornis. Its flight capabilities have atrophied, but its leg muscles are highly developed, allowing it to carry people and luggage and gallop as fast as a horse.
The "Souzou Galleria Toriuma (Kui, Kai) & Yupa" brings to life details not fully expressed in the original work, meticulously recreating the Toriuma's large beak, long neck, and developed legs, among other features. The intricate feather details covering its body are also exquisitely sculpted. Additionally, it comes with reins, a satchel, and an interchangeable helmeted head. Paired with its master – Yupa, the Sea of Corruption's foremost swordsman – as an articulated figure, it can recreate dynamic poses from the film! Yupa's attire evokes the image of someone traversing the desert at high speed, and he comes with three interchangeable head sculpts, a rich array of weapons, and various hand gestures. The transparent Ohmu shield can also be used with the separately sold Nausicaä, allowing for the enjoyment of battle scenes.
