American-style collectible manufacturer Gentle Giant's "Jumbo Figure" series, known for its large scale and retro carded toy style, recently announced its latest product from "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope": the "Sandtrooper" 1/6 scale articulated figure! Scheduled for release in Q1 2023.
The "Sandtrooper" is a specialized trooper type trained by the Galactic Empire to operate and execute missions in harsh desert environments. Unlike standard Imperial Stormtroopers, Sandtroopers have additional cooling fans and sand filters integrated into their armor and helmets to adapt to the environment. Besides their armor often being covered in yellow sand, the survival backpack carrying rations and water on their back is also a distinctive visual feature.
This "Sandtrooper" making its reappearance in the Jumbo Figure line features 5 points of articulation. It is designed in the retro style of Kenner's past releases, exuding a nostalgic vintage aesthetic. The slightly bulky-looking helmet is quite endearing, and details such as the classic orange pauldron, armor etchings, and backpack configuration are also well-executed. Accessories include a blaster rifle that can be held. While official images of the packaging have not yet been released, it is expected to feature retro carded toy packaging.
