Japanese toy company TAKARA TOMY's popular toy series "ZOIDS" recently announced the launch of its 40th Anniversary Project "ZOIDS 40TH ANNIVERSARY PROJECT", and has now unveiled the prototype for the first definitive 40th Anniversary product, "AZ-01 BLADE LIGER".
The Blade Liger is the successor to the Shield Liger. While various settings exist across toys, anime, and manga—such as being developed by the Republic or directly evolving from the Shield Liger—its characteristic blue armor and weapon configuration are largely consistent. It is most famously known as the protagonist's Zoid in "Zoids: Chaotic Century". This unit is equipped with the "Organoid System," a special system restored from ancient ruins, which significantly enhances its mobility. It can utilize the main weapons, "Laser Blades," on both sides of its waist to execute high-speed assault tactics, slicing enemies in two. The shield generator in its mane offers higher defensive performance compared to the Shield Liger. Furthermore, the Blade Liger can be equipped with the "Attack Booster" enhancement. When oriented forward, it can be used as a beam cannon to strengthen long-range attacks; when oriented backward, it acts as a booster to enhance maneuverability.
The currently revealed prototype showcases a cool exterior and a more intricate frame design, representing an evolution that culminates 40 years of technology. Additionally, there are plans to release other iconic Liger-type Zoids from previous generations, such as "AZ-02 LIGER ZERO" and "AZ-03 MURASAME LIGER". More detailed information regarding the 40th Anniversary Project is expected to be announced in October.
