The True Runes Return! KONAMI's Suikoden HD Remaster to Launch Next Year!

A great boon for veteran players! KONAMI announced today at Tokyo Game Show 2022 that the first and second installments of its classic RPG series, Suikoden, will be released in 2023 as the brand-new "Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars" (幻想水滸伝 I&II HDリマスター 門の紋章戦争/デュナン統一戦争), available on major consoles and PC.

Suikoden is an RPG game launched by KONAMI in 1995 on the original PlayStation console. Taking inspiration from China's "Water Margin" (《水滸傳》), it incorporated elements of the 27 True Runes and the 108 Stars of Destiny, creating a unique story that garnered much fan affection. Both the first and second installments, slated for this HD Remaster, were originally released on the original PlayStation.

This HD Remaster significantly upgrades many aspects of the original game's visuals. Not only has the resolution been changed to 16:9, but many scenes have also been re-drawn, and character portraits are, of course, entirely new, appearing exceptionally beautiful and detailed. Furthermore, music and battle effects have been enhanced. In terms of functionality, new features such as battle acceleration, auto-battle, and dialogue lock have been introduced. Currently, the game is only confirmed for a 2023 release, with the exact date yet to be announced.

Incidentally, Eiyuden Chronicle, an RPG developed by the original Suikoden producer Yoshitaka Murayama and his team, which inherits the spirit of Suikoden, is also set to be released in 2023.
