Japanese model manufacturer Max Factory, known for its incredibly diverse and popular plastic model kit brand 'PLAMAX', recently announced the latest product from the classic robot anime "Brave Raideen": the "PLAMAX Raideen", slated for release in June 2023.
Raideen is the giant robot piloted by protagonist Akira Hibiki in the 1975 anime "Brave Raideen". Built 12,000 years ago by the Mu Empire, it is the only weapon in the series capable of countering the enemy Demon Empire. Normally stored in a golden, unarticulated state within a human-faced rock, it is activated by Akira Hibiki's psychokinesis. It possesses a rich arsenal of weapons, such as a bow, sword, and boomerang, and also features a transformation ability, allowing it to change into a raptor-like flight form called "GOD BIRD".
The "PLAMAX Raideen" being released this time is based on the 48th work, "Brave Raideen," created by sculptor Hitoshi Hayami for the highly popular serialized project "Hitoshi Hayami's Super 3D SHOW" in the 1990s model magazine 'Hobby JAPAN'. Max Factory meticulously 3D scanned the original work published at the time to create a digital model, then re-adjusted part edges, designed part segmentation, and scaled it to an appropriate size. Finally, this classic masterpiece has been revived with modern technology.
The "PLAMAX Raideen" is a non-articulated model kit, standing approximately 17 cm tall upon completion. However, unlike many modern models with intricate part separation and color molding, this product requires extensive tool trimming and sanding. Some parts may also require model glue for complete fixation, and the vast majority of the colors will need to be painted by the builder to achieve the magnificent look seen in the official images.
