Hasegawa HASEGAWA, a renowned Japanese model manufacturer known for its realistic fighter jets, battleships, and race cars, will release a model kit of the "Iron Gear" (アイアン‧ギアー) from the classic robot anime series "Combat Mecha Xabungle", originally conceived by Hajime Yatate, with Yoshiyuki Tomino as the original creator and director, and Kunio Okawara responsible for the mechanical designs! It is scheduled for release in December 2022.
"Combat Mecha Xabungle" (戦闘メカ ザブングル) is a commemorative work for Sunrise Animation's 10th anniversary, which began airing in 1982 and ran for 50 episodes. The original story was a collaboration between Yoshiyuki Tomino and Yoshitake Suzuki, with Yoshiyuki Tomino also serving as the animation director, and Kunio Okawara handling the mechanical designs. The entire production team was comprised of masters. The story is set on the planet "Zora," where the protagonist Jiron Amos (ジロン・アモス) seeks revenge for his parents, who were murdered by Timp Sharon (ティンプ・シャローン). He is determined to break the established social rule of the "Three-Day Rule" (where a criminal is not pursued if they evade capture for three days) to avenge his parents.
The Iron Gear (アイアン‧ギアー, IRON GEAR) serves as Jiron and his companions' mobile mothership in the original story, often referred to as an LS (Land Ship). The most distinctive feature of this Iron Gear is its ability to transform from its LS form into a super-giant robot form. Naturally, the enemies also possess similar motherships, leading to dramatic battles between opposing motherships.
This Iron Gear model kit from Hasegawa HASEGAWA is the first product in a new series planned to celebrate the work's 40th anniversary. It is released in 1/500 scale. A slight drawback is that it can only display its LS (battleship) form and cannot transform into its giant robot form. However, various turrets on the ship are articulated, and the hangar doors on the legs can open. Additionally, it includes miniature models of various combat mecha, which can be displayed together to enhance the atmosphere.
