Bito's New Designer Toy Series Plays on Taiwanese Style, Making a Powerful Debut at the 2022 Taiwan Design Expo

EMERGENCY ALERT: Bito Issues a Taiphoon Warning!

Bito's New Designer Toy Series Plays on Taiwanese Style
Making a Powerful Debut at the 2022 Taiwan Design Expo

After a five-year hiatus, Bito's designer toys are making a major comeback.

Five years ago, Bito launched "the BITOY," a tribute to the greatest and most innovative rock band in history, The Beatles. The limited edition of 500 sets sold out instantly, becoming a legendary collector's item whispered about among designers, musicians, and toy collectors. Debuting on September 30th at the 2022 Taiwan Design Expo in Kaohsiung, "Taiphoon Warning" is the highly anticipated new series. From character design, clothing, and mannerisms to settings, it delves deep into the coolness of our everyday surroundings, creating a modern and fun parallel world that meticulously captures the unique collective personality and style of the Taiwanese people.

Taiphoon Warning signifies that Taiwanese style is about to take the world by storm.

"Taiphoon" (Taiwanese style) can no longer be fully encapsulated by any single stylistic element. Taiwanese culture is a collage—eclectic, diverse, and difficult to define, yet utterly unique. You can spot a Taiwanese person anywhere in the world at a single glance. Therefore, Taiphoon Warning is an experiment to transform everyday "Taiwanese flavor" into modern character designs, embarking on a quest to discover what it truly means to be Taiwanese—what personalities and attitudes we represent. More characters will be released in the future.

6+1 Characters Headline the Exhibition, Uncovering the "Default Settings" of Taiwanese People with Details Full of Easter Eggs.

The six characters portray the ordinary yet interesting lives of the everyday people we see, presenting the unique local charm of Taiwan. A breakfast shop griddle auntie, a scooter rider waiting at a traffic light in the rain, a warm-hearted neighborhood uncle, a spicy Taiwanese girl about to chase the garbage truck, a junior high boy who loves fried chicken cutlets and bubble tea, and a common roadside electrical box—plus a lucky cat guarding the storefront. They all have names that will make you smile, individual personality settings, and signature poses, with an impressive amount of Easter eggs hidden in their various accessories and details.

A Playful Spirit is Everything! Extracting Taiwan's DNA for the World to See.

Bito, the creator of this series, is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. They are a team skilled at creating buzz through cross-disciplinary work, spanning from toy design and pop art to character animation. With a portfolio including the promotional video for the Universiade, visual direction for the "Three Golds" awards ceremonies, the "Hyper-Gate" immersive experience at AMBI SPACE ONE, the large-scale "Island of Light" installation at the Hsinchu Lantern Festival, and "Swingphony" for the Taiwan Pavilion at the London Design Biennale, Bito constantly challenges itself to explore the essence of Taiwanese design. They firmly believe that only by approaching this exploration with a playful spirit, defining it from different angles, can they extract the DNA unique to Taiwan and share its charm with the world.
