Hong Kong toy brand "POSE+"'s METAL SERIES articulated alloy robot product line is scheduled to release an articulated toy in October 2023, featuring the protagonist "JJ" from the sci-fi SF anime "Zillion" (Akai Kōdan Zillion), which is themed around laser guns, and his three-wheeled off-road vehicle "Tri-Charger"!
The SF anime "Zillion" (赤い光弾ジリオン) was produced by Japan's Tatsunoko Production (タツノコプロ) and began airing in Japan in April 1987, with a total of 31 episodes. This work was themed around the "laser gun" toys that were popular at the time. It was a project by SEGA at the time, aiming to boost sales of laser gun toy products, generate excitement, and achieve a mutually beneficial outcome.
The story describes how the planet Maris (マリス), known as "Second Earth," is invaded by the Nozarian (ノーザ星人) aliens. With the battle situation overwhelmingly one-sided, the Maris people obtain three mysterious laser gun weapons with super strong power from an ancient civilization, known as "Zillion" (ジリオン). To effectively utilize these weapons, the Maris Defense Force selects three members with outstanding abilities: JJ, Champ (チャンピオン), and Apple (アップル), forming the special team "White Nuts" (ホワイトナッツ) to fight against the enemy. The story unfolds from there.
▼ "Zillion" Anime Opening Theme Video:
This articulated toy from POSE+'s Metal series is a physical realization of the Tri-Charger, a three-wheeled off-road vehicle from the original "Zillion" series, along with an articulated figure of the protagonist JJ. The Tri-Charger was developed by Dave (デイブ), a somewhat plump-looking member of the Maris military. It has a top speed of 310 km/h and can transform into an "armoretter form" (アーモレーター形態), a battle-enhanced suit worn by the protagonists.
This articulated product faithfully recreates the vehicle's various forms from the original work, with internal alloy parts giving it a substantial and high-quality feel. The articulated figure of protagonist JJ features multiple points of articulation, allowing for various poses. The accessories are quite rich, including multiple sets of hand parts for both the figure and the vehicle, interchangeable head gear (頭部装甲) parts, as well as the weapon laser gun and a display stand.
