THE GUNDAM BASE, Japan's official Gunpla flagship store for "Mobile Suit Gundam," recently announced that the latest event-exclusive product from "Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway's Flash," the "HG 1/144 Penelope [Clear Color]," will be available for sale in stores starting October 29.
The RX-104 Odysseus Gundam is a prototype MS newly developed by Anaheim Electronics for the Earth Federation Forces, and a sibling unit to the RX-105 Ξ Gundam. When the Odysseus is equipped with the "FIXED FLIGHT UNIT" flight component, it becomes the monstrously sized "RX-104FF Penelope", possessing a high-output Minovsky Flight System and beam barriers that reduce drag, allowing it to fly at supersonic speeds independently. It is also equipped with funnels that can be used in atmospheric environments, a high-output beam rifle, and composite armaments on both arms including mega particle cannons, missiles, and beam sabers, boasting formidable mobility and firepower.
The "HG 1/144 Penelope [Clear Color]" is based on the previously released standard version, and stands over 20 cm tall, significantly larger than typical HG Gunpla which are usually just over 10 cm. Under the supervision of mechanical designer KATOKI HAJIME, the complex body structure and detailed styling of the Penelope are reproduced in HG specifications, and assembled with richly colored molded parts. It not only largely recreates its appearance from the series but also reproduces its armaments such as the beam rifle, beam sabers, and composite shields on both arms. Furthermore, it features a transformation mechanism into flight mode, and a separation mechanism for the Odysseus Gundam and the FIXED FLIGHT UNIT.
This event-exclusive version replaces the kit's yellow, red, and dark blue parts with clear molded colors, while the white armor is changed to semi-transparent matte white molding. This creates a highly translucent aesthetic distinct from the standard version, and also makes it more convenient for special customization techniques such as lighting or glow-in-the-dark paints.
