Following the official premiere of the highly anticipated tokusatsu series "Kamen Rider BLACK SUN," Bandai Toys Japan's adult-oriented Kamen Rider belt series, "COMPLETE SELECTION MODIFICATION," simultaneously announced the release of the "Century King SUN DRIVER" belt, used by Kamen Rider BLACK SUN in the show, slated for March 2023.
Exclusively streamed on Amazon Prime Video starting October 28, 2022, "Kamen Rider BLACK SUN" is part of the 50th-anniversary project for Japan's popular tokusatsu series "Kamen Rider." Themed around a return to its origins, it re-imagines the popular 1987 series "Kamen Rider BLACK," presenting the cruel fate and sorrowful story of brothers Kotaro Minami and Nobuhiko Akizuki through director Kazuya Shiraishi's fresh perspective. The series stars acclaimed actors Hidetoshi Nishijima and Tomoya Nakamura as the two new-generation characters.
The character designs for the Kamen Riders and monsters in the series were discussed by Kazuya Shiraishi, Shinji Higuchi, Kiyotaka Taguchi, and others, with the final designs completed by PLEX company designers, including Daisuke Kobayashi. Unlike the original BLACK's functional beauty and biomechanical aesthetic, Kamen Rider BLACK SUN and Shadow Moon incorporate a wealth of more realistic biological features, such as monster-like muscle lines, thorns, and carapaces, built upon their basic prototypes.
For the first time, the CSM series utilizes a "fully automatic transformation mechanism" to create the impressive Century King SUN DRIVER belt. Not only does it meticulously reproduce the intricate mechanical detailing, but skilled artisans have also applied a heavy, weathered finish to each part, conveying Kamen Rider BLACK SUN's battle-scarred appearance from the show. Each belt is a unique product with a distinct handcrafted feel.
Furthermore, the belt incorporates a motor-driven system and features sensors in two locations that detect the user's movements. Simply by wearing the belt and striking a transformation pose, the belt will detect the action, emit light and sound effects, and begin its automatic transformation, faithfully recreating the cool transformation scenes from the series. The belt includes a rich array of in-show sound effects, such as transformation, transformation release, and special moves. It also features numerous lines recorded by the talented actor Hidetoshi Nishijima, who portrays the protagonist Kotaro Minami, which can be played at any time by pressing the dialogue button on the belt.
