The popular soft vinyl toy 'MOVIE MONSTER' series, released by Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., following the Kamen Rider forms of the two protagonists, Kotaro Minami and Nobuhiko Akizuki, from "Kamen Rider BLACK SUN"—namely, "Kamen Rider BLACK SUN / Kamen Rider SHADOWMOON"—today announced the release of their Kaijin forms, "Black Lord Locust Kaijin BLACK SUN" and "Silver Lord Locust Kaijin SHADOWMOON," scheduled for November 26, 2022.
'Kamen Rider BLACK SUN,' which premiered exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on October 28, 2022, is part of the 50th-anniversary project for Japan's popular tokusatsu series 'Kamen Rider.' The project aims to return to its origins, remaking the popular 1987 series 'Kamen Rider BLACK.' Through director Kazuya Shiraishi's fresh perspective, it portrays the cruel fate and sorrowful story of the two brothers, Kotaro Minami and Nobuhiko Akizuki, starring popular and highly acclaimed actors Hidetoshi Nishijima and Tomoya Nakamura as the new generation's two characters.
The character designs for the Kamen Riders and Kaijin in the series were discussed by Kazuya Shiraishi, Shinji Higuchi, Kiyotaka Taguchi, and others, with the final designs completed by PLEX designer Daisuke Kobayashi and his team. Unlike the original BLACK, which featured functional beauty and a bio-mechanical aesthetic, Kamen Rider BLACK SUN and Shadowmoon incorporate a wealth of more realistic biological features, such as monstrous muscle lines, thorns, and carapaces, built upon their basic prototypes.
The two new MOVIE MONSTER releases, "Black Lord Locust Kaijin BLACK SUN" and "Silver Lord Locust Kaijin SHADOWMOON," are based on the Kaijin forms of the two protagonists before they awakened as Kamen Riders in the series. The terrifying locust-inspired appearance is faithfully reproduced, meticulously detailing the full-body carapace patterns, a pair of insect legs on the back, and the belt's intricate design. The paintwork captures BLACK SUN's jet-black body with a bluish tint and SHADOWMOON's silvery-white shell.
