Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s collector toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, recently announced a brand-new model digitization service, 'Digi-Fig', with a closed beta test scheduled for this winter.
'Digi-Fig' is a new service that digitizes model products released under the TAMASHII NATIONS brand. Players can enjoy their models on their smartphones simply by opening the digital model with the dedicated application. Currently, it primarily offers four stages of functions: "Viewing," "Playing," "Creating," and "Connecting." Even when the physical model isn't at hand, users can experience the joy of playing with models and share photos of their digital models with others.
STEP 1 "Viewing"
Based on product development data, digital models are reconstructed within the application. In addition to being able to admire the model from all 360 degrees, the gyroscope function can simulate the experience of holding and enjoying a physical model in your hand.
STEP 2 "Playing"
Each digital model is equipped with several built-in poses, allowing for various pose changes with a single tap. Each joint also has nodes for free pose adjustment. Furthermore, augmented reality (AR) functionality can be combined to merge digital models with real-world scenes.
STEP 3 "Creating"
The application also includes various built-in 3D scene bases and effect parts, allowing users to freely create unique digital diorama models.
STEP 4 "Connecting"
Once created, users can use the application to share their creations on major social media platforms. The app also features an image wall design where all player-submitted works can be viewed, closely connecting the model player community.
However, TAMASHII NATIONS has not yet clarified whether this service will require additional payment, or how digital models will be sold or distributed.
