BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan has announced today the latest product from the 'RG (Real Grade)' Gunpla series, which incorporates internal frames, interlocking armor, and new technologies into 1/144 scale models. The "RG 1/144 Destiny Impulse Gundam," originating from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY MSV," is scheduled for release in April 2023. This product will be exclusively sold at BANDAI's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
The ZGMF-X56S/θ Destiny Impulse Gundam was developed by the Z.A.F.T. military to integrate the three Silhouette Packs used by the Impulse Gundam: the Force, Sword, and Blast types. The goal was to maximize the weapon characteristics of each pack, achieving the requirement of a "versatile weapon adaptable to various combat situations." The ultimate result was this "Destiny Silhouette Pack." Although the Destiny Impulse Gundam, when equipped, boasted a rich arsenal including laser anti-ship swords, beam boomerangs, high-energy beam rifles, beam turrets, Wings of Light, and beam shields, it required multiple recharges in a single battle, making it difficult for practical combat use. Ultimately, the production plan for the Destiny Impulse Gundam was frozen after the development of four prototypes, leading to the re-development of the Destiny Gundam that appeared in the anime.
The "RG 1/144 Destiny Impulse Gundam" is based on the previously released Impulse Gundam kit. Its characteristic purple, red, and white molded colors have been updated, and the Destiny Silhouette Pack, which carries numerous armaments, along with the newly added beam boomerangs on both forearms and the beam shield generators, are all reproduced with new parts. It also includes newly designed marking decals. It can be combined with the separately sold "RG 1/144 Destiny Gundam Wings of Light Effect" to recreate the deployed Wings of Light.
Regarding its armaments, in addition to the high-energy beam rifle, the beam boomerangs stored in the elbows can be detached and held in hand with beam effect parts. The two large laser anti-ship swords mounted on the back also come with beam effects, and their hilts can be connected to form a twin-bladed weapon. The two "Extendable Beam Turrets" can recreate firing poses from both the head and waist thanks to their movable arms, and they also feature an original RG version design that allows them to be detached and used as handheld weapons.
