Tsuburaya Productions and TRIGGER animation studio have collaborated on the latest theatrical film, "GRIDMAN UNIVERSE," which continues the stories of "SSSS.GRIDMAN" and "SSSS.DYNAZENON." The release date and latest trailer have finally been announced. GOOD SMILE COMPANY, a Japanese model manufacturer that has released numerous model toys for the Gridman series, subsequently announced its latest product, "SSSS. Soft Vinyl Figure Gridman New Form (Provisional Name)," scheduled for release in April 2023.
The theatrical film "GRIDMAN UNIVERSE," scheduled to premiere on March 24, 2023, will be directed by Akira Amemiya, who also directed the previous two animated works for TRIGGER. It brings together main characters such as Yuta Hibiki, Rikka Takarada, Yomogi Asanaka, and Yume Minami from both series, creating a brand new original story interwoven with Gridman and Dynazenon. Additionally, their appearances in the film will feature new forms, different from previous works!
The "SSSS. Soft Vinyl Figure Gridman New Form (Provisional Name)" released this time is a PVC soft vinyl pre-painted finished product with a height of approximately 17 cm. Based on the in-story settings, it captures the characteristic armor design, simplifies details, and reproduces the rich color scheme of silver, red, blue, yellow, and green. Sharp angles that are prone to breaking or causing injury have been blunted, creating specifications suitable for a soft vinyl figure. From the color scheme and the radial glowing part on the chest, it is evident that this design largely pays homage to the character "Gridman Sigma" from the live-action sequel.
Gridman Sigma only appeared in "Denkou Choujin Gridman: The Return of the Demon King," a sequel serialized in magazines with illustrations and text. When the monsters controlled by the new Demon King NEO Kahn Digifer put Gridman in a tough battle, the new hero Gridman Sigma appeared to rescue him, and the two teamed up to fight the new threat. Gridman Sigma is set as Gridman's younger brother, and the one who merged with Gridman Sigma was the villain Takeshi Todo, who once created countless monsters. After accepting the friendship of Naoto Sho and others, he reformed and became an ally of justice.
