The popular die-cast toy series 'Soul of Chogokin', released by BANDAI SPIRITS' collector's toy division TAMASHII NATIONS, has officially announced its latest product, the 'MFS-3 Kiryu' (GX-103), from the tokusatsu film 'Godzilla x Mechagodzilla', scheduled for release in May 2023.
Appearing in the 2002 film 'Godzilla x Mechagodzilla', Mechagodzilla is known in the film as Kiryu (Type-3), with its official designation being 'Multi-purpose Fighting System Type-3 (MFS-3)'. This Kiryu was secretly constructed by the Japanese government using the skeletal remains of the original Godzilla salvaged from Tokyo Bay as its framework. Its locomotion system is controlled by a 'DNA computer' built from Godzilla's bone marrow cells, allowing Kiryu to move with biological swiftness, fluidly execute close-quarters combat, and even evade Godzilla's atomic breath. It is also equipped with a variety of armaments including missiles, Type 0 Railguns, Maser Blades, and the Type-3 Absolute Zero Cannon. However, the G-forces generated during operation are beyond human endurance, necessitating remote control via the support aircraft 'AC-3 Shirasagi'.
The 'Soul of Chogokin MFS-3 Kiryu' boasts an impressive size, standing approximately 23 cm tall and measuring about 35 cm in length. Under the thorough supervision of original designer Shinji Nishikawa, its in-film appearance is faithfully recreated, precisely detailing Kiryu's intricate mechanical structure. The internal leg thrusters can be deployed without needing to swap parts. The entire figure is finished with rich metallic paintwork to replicate Kiryu's silver-white armor, complete with body markings printed in various locations.
Armaments include a backpack unit and wrist-mounted Type 0 Railguns, which can be combined with Kiryu to form its heavy armament configuration. The Type 0 Railguns can be fitted with blade parts to recreate the deployed state of the Maser Blades.
The dedicated display stand, designed in the style of a hangar, can recreate the backpack unit's ejection state or be used with its support arm to suspend armaments. Furthermore, the powerful ultimate weapon, the 'Absolute Zero Cannon', concealed within its chest, features an outer armor deployment mechanism. This can be combined with the internal LED lights to recreate its firing preparation state.
Additionally, Kiryu's eyes come with three types of sculpts: 'Normal State', 'Berserk State', and 'Repaired State'. The head also features internal LED lights, capable of reproducing the yellow eyes for the normal state, red eyes for the berserk state, and other forms. Accessories further include a set of 'Battle-Damaged Replacement Parts' and an 'Akane Yashiro Mini-Figure', allowing for the recreation of the iconic scene from the film's climax where Kiryu's right arm and chest are damaged after a fierce battle with Godzilla, and pilot Akane Yashiro stands on its shoulder, watching Godzilla depart!
