BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan today announced the latest product from the 'MG (Master Grade)' Gunpla series, which features the latest technology, complete part separation, and high posability: the "MG 1/100 Gundam Astray Out Frame D" from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY ASTRAY", scheduled for release in April 2023. This product will be sold exclusively on Bandai's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
The ZGMF-X12 Gundam Astray Out Frame is an industrial MS used by protagonist photographer Jess Rabble and his bodyguard Kaite Madigan. It was originally constructed by Lowe Guele using spare parts from the Covenant Gundam. After being heavily damaged in a battle with the Covenant Gundam, it was repaired by Lowe Guele into the combat-ready MS ZGMF-X12D Gundam Astray Out Frame D. The Out Frame D replaces the VPS armor with foam armor, which, while reducing strength, increases mobility. To counter the Covenant Gundam's virus dispersal function, a multi-seat visual flight cockpit capable of directly locking onto enemy units was added to its head.
The "MG 1/100 Gundam Astray Out Frame D" is based on the previously released Covenant Gundam, utilizing numerous new parts and new molding colors to realize the form from mechanical designer Junichi Akutsu's latest design sketches. Aside from the new head and chest armor, the main body is essentially the same as the Covenant Gundam, featuring the cool, muscular armor silhouette characteristic of the Astray series.
The most distinctive weapon parts are also made with a large number of new components, including the "Photo Gun" which replicates a lens texture, the "Beam Rifle" with an extendable stock mechanism, and the "Armor Schneider" combat knife shaped like an ice axe. Auxiliary mechanical arms can also deploy from both sides of the backpack, allowing the Photo Gun, Beam Rifle, and other armaments to be equipped and rotated in multiple directions. Additionally, the accessories include a clear molded display stand and new water-slide decals with abundant body markings.
The backpack armor includes adapter parts for two interface specifications, allowing the Gundam Astray Out Frame D to be compatible with separately sold MG Astray series backpacks and Strike Gundam series backpacks, recreating its in-story ability to utilize the Striker Pack system.
