BANDAI SPIRITS Collectors Division TAMASHII NATIONS of Japan has announced the latest product from its 'S.H.MonsterArts' series, which combines exquisite monster sculpting with outstanding articulation technology. The new item, 'Gamera (1999) Kyoto Decisive Battle Ver.', based on the tokusatsu film 'Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris', is scheduled for release in June 2023.
Gamera, the monster that appeared in the Heisei Trilogy, is set as a biological weapon created by an ancient super-civilization approximately 150 million years ago to defeat the man-eating monster 'Gyaos', utilizing ancient technology and the Earth's life energy, 'Mana'. Gamera can combine oxygen with its internal plasma energy to unleash powerful 'Plasma Fireballs'. After major battles, Gamera's body structure begins to evolve during rest periods, with its appearance changing in each subsequent film, and its combat abilities growing stronger.
The 'S.H.MonsterArts Gamera (1999) Kyoto Decisive Battle Ver.' is based on the standard edition released in 2018. It has been thoroughly supervised by monster sculptor Shinichi Wakasa, special effects makeup artist Tomoo Haraguchi, and prototype sculptor Miki Takahama, all of whom were involved in the production of the Heisei Gamera films. This collaboration has resulted in a new head sculpt that more closely resembles the on-screen appearance, meticulously recreating the suit's details, and featuring a new paint application to faithfully reproduce the original suit colors.
The overall articulation features a precise parts separation design, with numerous joints from the lower jaw, neck, to the limbs and tail, offering both a flexible range of motion and complete aesthetic integrity. Accessories include the interchangeable limb and tail parts from the 2018 release, which allow for the recreation of its turtle-like flying form, along with a display stand. Also included is the 'Flame Fist' effect part, Gamera's finishing move used to absorb flames and defeat Iris. Furthermore, a new interchangeable right arm part is added to recreate its severed arm state.
