Bandai's GASHAPON capsule toy brand is launching a new artist collaboration series, "Art in Gashapon." The first installment will feature sculptor Michihiro Matsuoka, releasing the "Art in Gashapon Michihiro Matsuoka" Gashapon series. There will be five different designs, with a reference price of 800 JPY per capsule. These will be exclusively available for purchase online via PREMIUM BANDAI's "GASHAPON ONLINE" and are scheduled for release in January 2023.
Popular Japanese sculptor Michihiro Matsuoka (MATSUOKA MICHIHIRO) specializes in sculpting animals in a cyberpunk style using clay as his medium. He has a strong affinity for weathered mechanisms and natural objects, often applying rust and weathered finishes to his works to evoke the passage of time. This unique aesthetic has earned his creations high acclaim in art events both within Japan and internationally.
The "Art in Gashapon Michihiro Matsuoka" Gashapon series faithfully recreates Mr. Matsuoka's popular barn owl and scops owl artworks in a 5.5 cm Gashapon size! The lineup includes orange and gray barn owls, as well as green, blue, and gold scops owls. These miniature figures meticulously reproduce the classic mechanical designs and feature rust-like paint applications, allowing collectors to own these artistic masterpieces in Gashapon form.
