BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan has announced the latest product from the film Mobile Suit Gundam Cucuruz Doan's Island, the "HG 1/144 Guncannon (Doan's Island Ver.)," from their 'HG (High Grade)' series of 1/144 scale Gunpla, which boasts the most diverse range of mobile suits. It is scheduled for release on May 20, 2023.
The RX-77-02 Guncannon is a mobile suit operated by the Earth Federation Forces. The two Guncannons appearing in the film are piloted by White Base crew members Kai Shiden and Hayato Kobayashi. Kai's unit, numbered 104, is equipped with 240mm low-recoil cannons on its back. Hayato's unit, numbered 109, features a missile launcher on its back. The Guncannon in this work continues the late-production model design from Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN, but its model number and background are new settings that incorporate elements from both the original Mobile Suit Gundam and THE ORIGIN versions.
The "HG 1/144 Guncannon (Doan's Island Ver.)" is based on the previously released THE ORIGIN version kit, modified with numerous new parts to recreate the head, chest, and armament details as depicted in the film. It features a vermillion molded color to represent the Guncannon's characteristic red armor and also includes water-slide decals designed by mechanical designer KATOKI HAJIME, allowing for the recreation of various markings on the mobile suit and the unit numbers for Kai's and Hayato's machines.
The overall articulation matches the latest specifications of the HG series, featuring highly flexible joint designs. Mechanisms to enhance the range of motion are included in the waist and feet, allowing for various cool shooting poses from the film. In addition to newly sculpted beam rifles and expressive hand parts, the kit also includes two optional armaments: the low-recoil cannon and the missile launcher, allowing you to freely switch between Kai's unit or Hayato's unit specifications.
The two low-recoil cannons on the back feature movable hydraulic cylinder structures, allowing the barrels to be raised upwards. Combined with the neck joint that can tilt significantly backward and the highly flexible joints throughout the body, you can recreate the Guncannon's classic "seal pose" firing stance!
