Following the monochrome version included as a magazine supplement, the 'Gunpla-kun' (ガンプラくん) project, launched by BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division in Japan to promote the joy of model building, is finally releasing a full-fledged product: the adorable Gunpla-kun from the series will be available as a 1/1 scale, four-color molded kit, titled '1/1 Gunpla-kun DX Set', scheduled for release in April 2023.
The protagonists of 'Gunpla-kun' are Gunpla models produced at Bandai's Shizuoka factory. One early morning, a mysterious light emanated from the production line, giving birth to unknown Gunpla runners, including the most famous RX-78-2 Gundam, MS-06 Zaku II... and many other Mobile Suits from the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series. Adopting a unique two-head-tall cartoon style, the charming designs and stories convey the joy of building Gunpla models.
The '1/1 Gunpla-kun DX Set' is made from "LIMEX," a new eco-friendly material primarily composed of limestone, which significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions compared to petroleum-derived plastics. This kit faithfully reproduces the Gunpla-kun character, a derivative of the RX-78-2 "First Gundam" from the series, at its full height of approximately 84mm. Featuring four molded colors and precise part separation, a straight build will largely capture its distinctive slender, two-head-tall proportion.
In addition to familiar armaments like the beam rifle, beam saber, and shield, along with a dedicated display stand, the set also includes a "runner frame part." This allows you to disassemble the Gunpla-kun body and attach it to the runner frame, recreating its adorable runner form from the series! However, be extremely careful when clipping the gates, as the thickness and color of this "runner frame part" are identical to those of a real runner frame!
