Japanese capsule toy manufacturer "State of the Art" (SO-TA / 株式会社SO-TA) has, following the highly acclaimed first installment in collaboration with renowned Japanese wood sculptor Takaoki Tajima, once again launched the popular sequel, the "Takaoki Tajima's Sculpture Collection 2" gashapon series. There are four types in total, each priced at 500 JPY per turn, and they are scheduled to be released in April 2023!
Japanese wood sculptor Takaoki Tajima (@Takaoki Tajima) hails from a family of Buddhist sculptors, being a fifth-generation artisan. He combines traditional wood carving craftsmanship with modern, playful creative thinking. His sculptures, characterized by a humorous and satirical style, have garnered attention, featuring world-weary Tibetan foxes, defecating cats, and his most iconic motif of exposed genitalia.
The second installment, the "SO-TA Takaoki Tajima's Sculpture Collection 2" gashapon series, similarly transforms Master Takaoki Tajima's sculptures into capsule toys. Each piece stands approximately 75 mm tall and is made of PVC, faithfully recreating the cute and humorous works from his carving knife. The lineup includes the cloud-riding immortal God (神様), the God Gazing into the Distance (遠くを見る神様), as well as the Squid Pietà (イカピエタ), which mimics Michelangelo's classic Pietà sculpture, and the Squid Salome (イカサロメ), paying homage to the biblical story. Unlike the first installment, this series features vibrant and lively new color variations, allowing collectors to own a master's work in an affordable gashapon format~
