RE-MENT, the Japanese manufacturer of candy toys and collectible figures, has announced the latest product in its popular 'DesQ' series, which combines small item storage functionality. The new product, themed around Hatsune Miku and other "Piapro Characters," is titled "[Hatsune Miku Series] DesQ P@rty on Desk♪" and is scheduled for release on January 30, 2023.
The characters such as "Hatsune Miku," "Kagamine Rin," "Kagamine Len," "Megurine Luka," "KAITO," and "MEIKO," formerly known as the VOCALOID Family, are virtual singer software characters developed by Japan's Crypton Future Media using VOCALOID voice synthesis software. In recent years, they have been officially renamed "Piapro Characters." Since Hatsune Miku's release in 2007, the trend of creating songs using Piapro characters has expanded globally, centered in Japan, with each song sparking a massive chain reaction of creativity (=Peer Production), shaping incredibly diverse images for these characters.
The newly released "[Hatsune Miku Series] DesQ P@rty on Desk♪" utilizes the official designs of the Piapro characters, combining them with "signature items" derived from their secondary creations. Examples include Hatsune Miku's classic leek from "Ievan Polkka," the twins Kagamine Rin/Len with oranges and bananas, Megurine Luka with a bluefin tuna, MEIKO linked to her bold, heavy-drinking older sister image with sake, and KAITO, the older brother who loves ice cream. Not only does each character boast a super cute design, but they also incorporate practical small item storage functions!
