Japanese toy brand BellFine, known for releasing numerous scale figures, is scheduled to release a PVC scale figure of Kotoko Iwanaga, the protagonist from the popular series In/Spectre, in May 2023!
The work In/Spectre was created by Japanese novelist Kyo Shirodaira and won the 12th Honkaku Mystery Award in 2012. The manga, illustrated by Chasiba Katase, began serialization in 2015. The anime adaptation started airing in 2020, with its latest second season broadcast in January 2023. Including the original novel series, cumulative sales have exceeded four million copies. The work's style is an alternative mystery, similar to the verbal sparring and truth-building debates in the Japanese drama Legal High, interspersed with strange elements like yokai, vengeful spirits, and other urban legends.
The protagonist, Kotoko Iwanaga, has a petite appearance. Due to a "kamikakushi" (spirited away) incident in her childhood, she became the "Goddess of Wisdom" for yokai, spirits, and other otherworldly beings. She lost her right eye and left leg (fitted with a prosthetic eye and limb, respectively) as the price for communicating with them. She possesses the ability to command vengeful spirits and yokai, who respectfully call her "Princess" (おひいさま). She often acts as a mediator, maintaining harmonious order between the human and otherworldly realms. She is exceptionally skilled at creating fictional truths, engaging in verbal battles that consume a great deal of mental energy, and finding suspicious details in seemingly ordinary events. At times, she also exhibits unruly behavior, such as acting spoiled or suddenly making lewd remarks.
This Kotoko Iwanaga figure by Bellfine is crafted at a 1/7 scale, standing approximately 21 cm tall. It is based on Kotoko Iwanaga's standard appearance, featuring her wearing a flat cap and holding her ever-present cane. The outfit's color scheme is primarily goose yellow, a departure from her commonly seen blue. She is depicted walking on a cobblestone-patterned base, accompanied by a tanuki yokai. The details are exquisitely reproduced, even including the distinctive features of her prosthetic leg on her inner thigh.
