Japanese toy manufacturer Max Factory is scheduled to release in August 2023 a new 1/72 scale model kit (Ver.GT) of the Earth Federation Army's Combat Armor "Big Foot", from the 40th-anniversary project work "Get truth Fang of the Sun Dougram", which is based on the classic robot anime series "Fang of the Sun Dougram"!
"Fang of the Sun Dougram" (太陽の牙ダグラム) is a robot anime series directed by Ryosuke Takahashi and produced by Sunrise. It began airing on TV Tokyo in Japan in 1981, with a total of 75 episodes. The most distinctive feature of the work is its narrative style, which avoids a simple good-versus-evil dichotomy. Therefore, there are no purely good or bad characters in the story, only factions with differing stances and beliefs. The mechanical designs were handled by the renowned Kunio Okawara. This series ranks second in viewership ratings in the history of robot anime.
This "Big Foot" Combat Armor, originating from the 40th-anniversary project work "Get truth Fang of the Sun Dougram", is a unit manufactured to counter Dougram. Earth Federation Army pilots Travis (トラビス) and Aura (アウラ) confronted the protagonist Cullen, who piloted Dougram, in the desert. Although they survived, Travis suffered severe injuries that left him unable to walk, and Aura lost her right eye. Seeking revenge, the two acquired Big Foot. Developed by Soltic Company, it is a third-generation Combat Armor equipped with electronic instruments to resist the X-Nebula. Its cockpit is designed for two occupants, with one managing piloting and the other managing weapon systems.
This product faithfully recreates the Big Foot's design and exterior colors from "Get truth Fang of the Sun Dougram". The cockpit is rendered with clear parts, and figures of Travis and Aura are also included. The unit's weapons, such as the handheld linear gun, great sword, six-tube missile launcher, seven-tube missile launcher, and twin cannon, are all faithfully reproduced and equipped. With the aid of articulated joints, it can accurately replicate poses from the manga. Water-slide decals are also included to perfectly reproduce intricate details.
