Japanese toy company KOTOBUKIYA is set to release a 1/7 scale figure of the heroine Raphtalia from the second season of the anime series "The Rising of the Shield Hero", featuring her "Sword Hero" appearance! This highly anticipated figure is scheduled for release in July 2023.
"The Rising of the Shield Hero" (盾の勇者の成り上がり) is a fantasy novel series originally serialized online by Japanese author Aneko Yusagi. It was later adapted into a manga and officially animated in 2019, with its second season airing from April 2022. The story follows college student Naofumi Iwatani, who, after accidentally flipping through a book titled "The Four Holy Weapons," is sucked into another world and becomes the "Shield Hero." The unremovable shield on his arm is his only weapon.
As a demi-human, Raphtalia (ラフタリア) is the first companion of the protagonist Naofumi Iwatani. Her original hometown was destroyed after the "First Wave," leading to her enslavement. After meeting Naofumi, she was rescued and became his companion. Initially appearing child-like, her appearance underwent significant changes as her level increased, transforming her into a mature adult woman. She is one of the people Naofumi himself calls "most trustworthy." With formidable combat prowess, she serves as the primary attacker, becoming the best sword by Naofumi's side.
This "Sword Hero Raphtalia" figure from KOTOBUKIYA is a physical embodiment of Raphtalia's appearance in the second season of "The Rising of the Shield Hero," where she dons a miko outfit and wields a Japanese sword to battle enemies. Although there are numerous differences between the anime's plot and the original novel, Raphtalia's design in this outfit is incredibly striking. She is depicted in a combat stance, her long hair flowing, dressed in traditional miko attire, presenting a different aura from her usual self. Every intricate detail has been faithfully recreated, including the scabbard at her waist, the decorative knots, and the slippers on her feet, making this a product that offers a distinct image compared to her past portrayals.
