Released by BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division of Japan, the latest product from 'SD Gundam World Heroes' Knight World Gaiden 'Legend of the Dragon Knights,' 'SDW HEROES Superior Strike Freedom Gundam,' was officially released in Japan on January 28th. Alongside its release, official box art, kit contents, and prototype information were also revealed.
The prototype for Superior Strike Freedom Gundam comes from the popular character 'Superior Dragon,' who appears throughout the 'SD Gundam Gaiden' series. Its design is based on the protagonist mobile suit MSA-0011 S Gundam from 'Gundam Sentinel.' In the old series, it guarded the story's setting, 'Saddarc,' as one of the twelve gods of the world. From ancient times, it was on the front lines, resolving crises even at the cost of self-sacrifice, thus losing much of its power. However, it often appears at the end of the story in a new form, having regained its power, to help the protagonists save the world, gradually restoring its true form as the 'Golden God.'
In 'Legend of the Dragon Knights,' Superior Strike Freedom Gundam is the 'Golden Ultimate Form' created by the fusion of Knight Strike Gundam and Flash Tyrant Dragon. The kit utilizes two new color moldings, cool and warm tones, to create its brilliant golden armor. The internal armor is represented using clear yellow and clear red parts.
All parts feature gate marks designed to be removed by hand, allowing assembly without the need for nippers or other tools. Color-correcting stickers are also included to reproduce some of the colors. While the visible hollow parts appear significantly improved compared to previous products, self-painting is still required to achieve a higher level of completion.
With the addition of movable wings and tail, the golden body appears quite luxurious and substantial. If multiple kits are acquired, the tail can be infinitely extended. Combined with the clear red molded hands, it can reproduce the pose for unleashing its special move. The overall frame structure is largely shared with Knight Strike Gundam, allowing most parts to be interchanged for customization. Furthermore, the kit includes parts that are currently unused but can be combined with future releases, hinting at future fusions or enhancements.
