Following machines from "Gundam Build Divers Genius Head Line" such as RE/100 Lindwurm Gundam and MG 1/100 Ex-Impulse Gundam, BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan recently announced the commercialization of the third new machine designed by NAOKI, the modeler responsible for the mechanical designs in the series: "MG 1/100 Kampfer Schwer" (tentative translation, Japanese: ケンプファー・シュヴェーア). It will be sold exclusively on Bandai's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI, at a later date.
The prototype for this machine is the assault-type prototype "MS-18E Kampfer", which appeared in "Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket." Although the Kampfer was developed by strengthening the Zaku's frame, generator, and propulsion system, its overall design was heavily specialized for close-quarters combat. Its entire armor was significantly lightened, and it was equipped with several high-thrust thrusters and attitude control nozzles, allowing it to lean forward and glide at high speed, performing hit-and-run assault missions with extremely high mobility and firepower. However, the trade-off was extremely fragile armor; even its front skirt armor was completely discarded, exposing its joints. In the series, it was ultimately riddled with holes by the Gundam NT-1's 90mm Gatling gun.
The Kampfer Schwer, appearing in "Gundam Build Divers Genius Head Line," is a new machine modified by modeler NAOKI using the "MG 1/100 Kampfer" kit. While it retains the Kampfer's silhouette and weapon set, its overall armor has been largely replaced with heavy armor featuring distinct Federation characteristics, and its color scheme has been changed to black and white.
