The bizarre and eerie sofubi brand, Kui Studio, founded by world-renowned Taiwanese sculptor and prototype artist Sam Hsu, has finally announced further release details for its new soft vinyl creation, "Monkey King," after releasing a teaser video at the end of 2022!
"Sun Wukong," a classic character arguably known by everyone in Chinese mythology and legends, has been reinterpreted by Sam Hsu in his unique, eerie style. The "Monkey King" soft vinyl figure stands approximately 21 cm tall, with accessories crafted from composite materials such as copper, resin, and suede fabric. Upon removing the mask, one can behold a Monkey King exuding a calm demeanor and self-assured presence. Both the fur and skin areas showcase an abundance of sculpted details and exquisite paintwork. The gourd hanging at his waist features realistic weathering, while the Ruyi Jingu Bang (Golden-Hooped Rod) presents an even more bizarre and eerie design style. Contrary to its conventional smooth appearance, its surface is intricately carved with a dense pattern resembling numerous gathered faces. The overall presence is truly extraordinary!
