Japanese figure manufacturer GOOD SMILE COMPANY has released a new product, the "Popuko and Pipimi" Chibi Figure, based on the popular anime "POP TEAM EPIC"! The suggested retail price is 7,500 JPY, and it is scheduled for release in September 2023.
The anime "POP TEAM EPIC" (ポプテピピック) is adapted from a comedic four-panel manga created by Japanese manga artist Bukubu Okawa. The story primarily revolves around the surreal daily lives of 14-year-old girls Popuko and Pipimi, focusing on pure comedy and nonsensical gags. It incorporates current events, anime, video games, TV dramas, and other topics as material for its humor, possessing a mysterious, captivating charm. After its anime adaptation, it became even more outrageous, with each episode featuring different voice actors for Popuko and Pipimi, boasting a luxurious cast, and an even more uncontrolled storytelling style.
The GSC "Popuko and Pipimi" Chibi Figure brings to life the scene from the anime's very first episode. Standing approximately 12 cm tall, it faithfully recreates the iconic moment (and only this moment) where Popuko asks, "Are you angry?" after throwing a punch, while Pipimi calmly replies, "I'm not angry." In addition to the duo's sculpts and poses, the figure also features a small torii-gate-like diorama with the "POP TEAM EPIC" title logo, a base, and a speech bubble, enriching the overall presentation.
