BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division in Japan today announced the latest product from the 'RG (Real Grade)' Gunpla series, which incorporates internal frames, interlocking armor, and new technologies into the 1/144 scale, the "RG 1/144 Gundam Epyon" from "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing", scheduled for release on September 30, 2023.
The OZ-13MS Gundam Epyon is a transformable mobile suit secretly developed by former OZ Supreme Commander Treize Khushrenada during his dismissal and confinement, based on data from the Tallgeese and the five Gundams. Unlike other weapons designed for slaughter and victory, this machine's design reflects Treize's chivalrous spirit and beliefs. Its armaments are limited to close-combat weapons suitable for duels, such as a beam sword, a shield equipped with a heat rod, and twin arm claws. It boasts excellent mobility, a "Twin Dragon" flight mode transformation mechanism, and also features the "Epyon System," which is similar in nature to the Wing Gundam Zero's "Zero System," making its performance top-tier in the series.
The "RG 1/144 Gundam Epyon" is commercialized with a completely new sculpt based on its TV anime design. Continuing the RG series' characteristics, it condenses excellent color separation, part division technology, and high-density modeling details into the 1/144 scale. It also includes Realistic Decals to express metallic textures and machine markings, achieving a very high level of completion even with a straight build.
The overall design is sharp and cool, and the articulation mechanisms have been optimally adjusted to achieve dynamic beam sword-wielding poses. This includes horizontal and two-stage movable axes in the forearms, movable shoulder armor to expand arm lifting range, three-axis multi-directional articulation in the torso, and interlocking armor mechanisms for the knee spikes, all of which allow for easily posing more natural beam sword-wielding stances during play.
The heat rod is produced using a one-piece molded Advanced MS Joint frame. The entire whip can be cut directly from the runner without any assembly, allowing for the recreation of its flexibly bending multi-segment movable structure. The twin wings feature an original mechanism inspired by pterosaurs, with two smaller lower wings equipped with an interlocking deployment mechanism. When transforming into the twin-headed MA form, the pull-out movable joints in the heads, individually articulated horns, mouths, and three claws allow for pterosaur-like movements. Furthermore, the hip joints incorporate a locking mechanism design to enhance joint strength after transformation.
