Following the recent announcement of the new anime series "Kyoukai Senki: Kyokukou no Souki", directed by Masami Obari, a collaboration between SUNRISE BEYOND and BANDAI SPIRITS for the original robot anime "Kyoukai Senki", news was promptly released yesterday that the protagonist machine from the series, "MAILeS Gouyou Proto-Gouyou", will be released as an HG plastic model kit, scheduled for August 11, 2023.
The story of "Kyoukai Senki: Kyokukou no Souki" is set after the conclusion of the Hokuriku Front in the previous series. While some territories reclaimed by the people are now governed by the New Japan Cooperation Organization, other regions within Japan remain under the de facto control of various foreign powers, and the oppression of the Japanese people has not improved. A similar situation unfolds on the isolated island (Okinawa) floating in the South China Sea, where the Oceanian military controlling the island, the resistance organization "Vulcan", and the North American military attempting to occupy the island are on the verge of a three-way conflict.
The "HG 1/72 MAILeS Gouyou Proto-Gouyou" utilizes a large number of new parts to faithfully recreate its jet-black armor design from the series. The head antenna can be swapped between deployed and stored states. The movable joints continue the design of the MAILeS series, offering a highly flexible range of articulation. Compared to previously released units, it features thicker armor and includes multiple new 3mm connection points across its body, significantly enhancing its expandability and allowing for customization with separately sold Kyoukai Senki series expansion armaments.
For armament accessories, it includes weapons such as a scimitar, a dedicated assault rifle, a dedicated handgun, and combat knives, along with various expressive hand parts and connection joints. Using the connection joints, the scimitar and handgun can be stored in any of the 3mm connection points on the body. The blades of the two combat knives can be detached, and their hilts can be stored inside the knee armor.
