Following the S.A.F.S. Mk.III A8/R8, Japanese model manufacturer WAVE has once again announced the latest product from Japanese sci-fi military guru Hiroshi Yokoyama's "Maschinen Krieger (Ma.K)", the "S.A.F.S. SPACE TYPE FIREBALL SG" 1/20 scale assembly model kit! This also marks the revival of the "S.A.F.S. SPACE TYPE FIREBALL" in an improved form after twenty years, scheduled for release in late July 2023.
Hiroshi Yokoyama's original SF series "Ma.K" is set in the 29th century, where Earth has been devastated by the Fourth World Nuclear War, practically becoming a dead planet. However, two factions still vie for supremacy over this land: the "Strahl Republic" and the "Earth Independent Government Mercenary Army". The rich array of toys and models derived from the combat armor and vehicles used by both sides has attracted a vast number of sci-fi military enthusiasts.
In the "Ma.K" setting, the "S.A.F.S FIREBALL" is a space-specialized variant of the S.A.F.S. Its exterior is largely similar to previous S.A.F.S. units, but its internal structure has been extensively modified. The Mercenary Army utilized the FIREBALL to conduct guerrilla tactics on the Moon and in satellite orbit, mirroring their ground operations, and successfully gained a partial advantage in space battles against the Strahl forces. Later, a temporarily modified version, the "FIREBALL SG," was further produced to compensate for delays in Snake Eye production. This commercialized assembly model kit does not require adhesive; instead, parts are secured with snap-fit connections. It can be further detailed with water-slide decals, and the cockpit hatch can be opened to reveal the pilot.
