Japanese toy manufacturer Max Factory has released numerous model kits of the mecha from the 1980s robot anime, "Fang of the Sun Dougram". This October 2023, they are set to release COMBAT ARMORS series No. 29, the Dougram Hang Glider Equipped Type (コンバットアーマーダグラム ハングライダー装着タイプ).
"Fang of the Sun Dougram" (太陽の牙ダグラム) is a robot anime produced by Japan's SUNRISE company, with Ryosuke Takahashi serving as director. It began airing on TV Tokyo in Japan in 1981 and ran for a total of 75 episodes. The most distinctive feature of the work lies in its narrative style, which avoids a simplistic good-versus-evil dichotomy. Consequently, there are no inherently good or bad characters in the series, only factions with differing stances and beliefs. The mechanical designs were handled by the renowned Mr. Kunio Okawara. This series holds the second-highest viewership rating in the history of robot anime.
This "Dougram Hang Glider Equipped Type" released by Max Factory is based on the previously released "COMBAT ARMORS MAX22 Dougram Update Ver." (COMBAT ARMORS MAX22 コンバットアーマー ダグラム アップデートver.). In addition to this modified unit, it includes the hang glider equipment that appeared in episode 72 of the anime, allowing Dougram to recreate its hang glider equipped form during Dr. David Samalin's (デビッド・サマリン) rescue operation from the original anime.
For this new hang glider component, some parts are pre-cut vacuum-formed pieces, and the Dougram's cockpit canopy frame comes pre-painted. Water-slide decals are also included, allowing collectors to reproduce various detailed markings on the unit, along with same-scale pilot figures and mini figurines of Dr. Samalin and J.J. Zalf.
