Following the first installment, Freedom Gundam, the brand new series "MGSD (MASTER GRADE SD)", launched by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd. and combining MG series technology with SD Gundam proportions, today officially announced its second product, "Gundam Barbatos", scheduled for release in autumn 2023. A prototype has currently been exhibited at the 61st Shizuoka Hobby Show.
The mobile suit launched this time, ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos, is the machine piloted by protagonist Mikazuki Augus in "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans". It was originally one of 72 Gundam Frame mobile suits built 300 years ago during the "Calamity War" to combat Mobile Armors (MAs). Although its armor has deteriorated after centuries of storage, the frame's performance remains as good as new. It features flexible articulation, high mobility, and high versatility, excelling at using close-range melee weapons. Its responsiveness is further enhanced when linked with Mikazuki's Alaya-Vijnana System, allowing intuitive control of the mobile suit's posture through the brain, enabling explosive movements and power even in gravity environments.
From the prototype currently on display, it can be seen that "MGSD Gundam Barbatos" continues the series' characteristics, incorporating MG-grade precise frame structures within its SD proportions. It features excellent part separation and color separation design from the inside out, recreating the hydraulic rod structure characteristic of the "Gundam Frame" from the show. The exterior armor also features high-density detailing, capturing Gundam Barbatos' wild appearance from the series. Notably, the red symbols on the shoulder armor, chest, and knee armor differ from previous product designs, and are now replaced with highly reflective clear parts utilizing "REFLECTION CUT" technology, creating a glowing effect.
