The HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd. has announced the latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam MSD" within its 1/144 scale Gunpla 'HG (High Grade)' series, which boasts the most diverse range of mobile suits. This is a prototype of the "GM (Shoulder Cannon/Missile Launcher Equipped)", scheduled for release in November 2023.
The RGM-79 GM is a mass-produced mobile suit developed from the actual combat data of the RX-78-02 Gundam. It focuses on simplifying the mobile suit's structure and reducing construction costs to improve productivity. While its performance is inferior to the Gundam, its advantages include rapid and mass production, relatively easy operation, and high versatility, allowing for modifications based on pilot or mission requirements. This version being released is the MSD version, which shares the same worldview as works such as "Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN" and "Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island". Its design was overseen by renowned mechanical designer KATOKI HAJIME.
The "HG 1/144 GM (Shoulder Cannon/Missile Launcher Equipped)" reuses many parts from the previously announced Morocco Frontline specification and replaces the molded colors with the red and gray scheme of the standard specification unit. The mobile suit not only features rich armor detailing but also incorporates highly flexible movable joints designed with the latest modern technology. The accessories will also include original mobile suit marking water decals designed by KATOKI HAJIME, enhancing the richness of detail.
The fixed back weaponry can be freely interchanged between two specifications: a shoulder cannon and a newly produced missile launcher. Furthermore, the handheld weaponry comes with an impressive array of parts, including a beam rifle, beam spray gun, beam spray gun (early type), hyper bazooka, beam saber *2, and a shield. These can be combined with various expressive hand parts to recreate combat poses!
