Japanese toy manufacturer Max Factory has released numerous model kits of mechs from the classic 80s robot anime "Fang of the Sun Dougram". The company is scheduled to release a new 1/35 scale assembly model of Dougram from the manga series "Get truth Fang of the Sun Dougram" in December 2023!
"Fang of the Sun Dougram" (太陽の牙ダグラム) is a robot anime produced by Japan's SUNRISE company, with Ryosuke Takahashi as director. It began airing on TV Tokyo in 1981, comprising a total of 75 episodes. The most distinctive feature of the work itself is that the story's narrative style does not follow a good-versus-evil dichotomy; thus, there are no so-called good or bad characters, only factions with differing stances and beliefs. The mech design was handled by the well-known Mr. Kunio Okawara. This work's viewership ratings rank second in the history of robot anime series.
The manga series "Get truth Fang of the Sun Dougram" is one of the projects commemorating the original anime's 40th anniversary. It is helmed by renowned manga artist "Yasuo Otagaki", known for works such as "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt," and supervised by Ryosuke Takahashi. Compared to the original, this version of Dougram features numerous differences in its external design, with a more slender, less rounded silhouette, and more panel lines and details across various parts. This version includes new parts not found in the previously released special edition, such as a turbo backpack, long cannon, long rifle, and missile pods, allowing it to recreate its appearance from the first chapter of the manga.
This 1/35 scale GT version of Dougram stands over 27cm tall. Based on the previously released 1/72 scale model as a reference, this 1/35 scale version features even more refined and added details. The cockpit uses clear parts, and the body also includes panel lines and decals. For weaponry, it comes with a standard arm-mounted machine gun and a special hydraulic arm clamp. A DX Deluxe Edition of this product is also available, offering a richer array of weapon accessories, including a missile launcher, arm-mounted side cannon, back-mounted long barrel cannon, turbo backpack, and mini figures.
