Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS company's collector toy division TAMASHII NATIONS' popular alloy toy "METAL BUILD" series, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the light novel "Full Metal Panic!", officially announced today that the commemorative product "METAL BUILD Laevatein Arbalest Reference" is scheduled for release in September 2023. The product will include a full-color sleeve jointly illustrated by Shikidouji and Kanetake Ebikawa.
The "ARX-8 Laevatein" piloted by protagonist Sousuke Sagara is a successor unit redesigned from a previously failed AS development, after the ARX-7 Arbalest's AI "AL" was defeated. It is named after the eternally burning demonic sword "Laevatein". This unit possesses unprecedented super high performance for an AS. After activating the λ-Driver, excess energy generates a ponytail-like "heat dissipation cable" on its head. However, the accompanying side effects are massive heat generation and a reduced operational time of 30 hours. Its auxiliary arms below the shoulders can carry a large amount of weaponry, and its shoulders can be equipped with "Fairy Feather" to nullify the λ-Driver of surrounding units. During the final battle, it was also equipped with the "XL-3 Emergency Deployment Booster" on its back, capable of transporting a large amount of weaponry.
The "METAL BUILD Laevatein Arbalest Reference" is a modification of the previously released standard version of Laevatein. It commercializes the Arbalest color scheme that was not adopted during Laevatein's original design. The original red and white armor has been completely changed to navy blue and off-white, better matching the armed style of the METAL BUILD Full Metal Panic! series.
The entire body is constructed with a substantial amount of die-cast frame, providing both joint strength and a weighty feel, allowing for various agile combat poses from the series. The cockpit below the head and the auxiliary arms below the shoulders both feature deployment mechanisms. Through interchangeable parts, it can also reproduce the head's "heat dissipation cable", the "Fairy Feather" mounted on both shoulders, and the deployed heat sinks on the shoulders and legs when the λ-Driver is activated.
This time, the weapon accessories are also plentiful, including the 165mm Multi-Purpose Demolition Howitzer, Monomolecular Cutter, Anti-Tank Dagger, 76mm Shotgun, Wire Gun, and other armaments. It also comes with a hangar-style dedicated display base that functions for both display and storage, allowing for a maintenance scene to be set up with mini-figures of 6 characters: Sousuke Sagara, Mao, Kurz, Tessa, Mardukas, and Sax. Furthermore, by using the separately sold "METAL BUILD XL-3 Emergency Deployment Booster", the flight form from the final battle can be reproduced!
