PLEX Co., Ltd. of Japan, in collaboration with X-PLUS Co., Ltd., has announced the latest product from their Toho special effects monster-themed soft vinyl figure line, the "Toho 30cm Series": "Yuji Sakai Modeling Collection Godzilla (2016) 4th Form Awakening Ver.," based on "Shin Godzilla," scheduled for release in November 2023. This product will be available in a standard version and a limited edition version sold exclusively at the official GODZILLA STORE.
This piece is based on a masterpiece GK (garage kit) model created by monster sculptor Yuji Sakai, which brings to life the terrifying pose from the movie "Shin Godzilla" where Godzilla simultaneously fires heat rays from its head and tail tip after being attacked by bombers. It was previously commercialized in 2019 as an unpainted, unassembled GK kit and received great acclaim, and now it is set to be revived once again as a finished soft vinyl figure!
The "Toho 30cm Series Godzilla (2016) 4th Form Awakening Ver." utilizes a metal mold created directly from Yuji Sakai's original sculpt, minimizing loss during the replication process. Made from soft vinyl, it extensively reproduces the intricate details of the original prototype, including the highly dense, wrinkled and protruding skin across its entire body, the head with its widely opened upper and lower jaws revealing internal mouth details, the multi-layered coral-like dorsal fins on its back, and the massive tail dramatically raised to emit heat rays. Each part boasts high-resolution, intricate sculpting.
The limited edition version, sold exclusively at the official GODZILLA STORE, features body parts molded first in clear material, then painted silver on the inside, and finally finished with translucent colors to depict the black skin glowing red, and the dorsal fins and tail emitting purple heat ray light. Without internal LED lights, the figure achieves a glowing effect through light reflection, as if the body itself is emitting light.
