Issued by Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company HOBBY Division, the Gunpla 'MG (Master Grade)' series, which incorporates the latest technology, complete part separation, and high posability, following Eclipse Gundam Unit 01, today announced the latest product from the MSV side story 'Mobile Suit Gundam SEED ECLIPSE', the "MG 1/100 Eclipse Gundam Unit 02", scheduled for release in September 2023.
MVF-X08R2 Eclipse Gundam Unit 02 utilizes a nuclear fusion engine as its power source. It was initially developed with the objective of "demonstrating preemptive strike technology to deter aggression from other nations." Its head is equipped with a multi-purpose sensor unit improved from the Aegis Gundam, and its entire body is adorned with a red and black night camouflage, granting it surprise attack capabilities akin to a bomber through its excellent search and stealth performance. However, it was sealed during the performance verification stage and later deployed for support during Unit 01's engagement with the Gale Striker Gundam.
The "MG 1/100 Eclipse Gundam Unit 02" is based on a modified version of the Unit 01 kit. In addition to replacing the red and black molded colors of the night camouflage exterior armor, it also utilizes numerous new parts to recreate the head unit improved from the Aegis Gundam, the nuclear engine-equipped "R2-W1 Beam Rifle" developed based on Freedom Gundam data, and the distinctive close-combat weapon "R2-W2 Solid Sword". It also features the same type of beam rifle, beam saber, and beam shield as Unit 01.
Continuing the variable frame structure of Unit 01, Unit 02 can also transform from its primary MS (Mobile Suit) form used during combat to its MA (Mobile Armor) form used for high-speed cruising. The backpack interface is also compatible with the "Striker Pack System", "Wizard System", as well as the Thunder Attacker Pack and Mobile Attacker Pack used by the Eclipse Gundam, allowing for the attachment of various separately sold SEED series backpacks on its back and shoulders.
