LEGO's Technic series yesterday (23rd) unveiled its latest space-themed product, "42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance," along with a super cool promotional video! It is scheduled for release on August 1, 2023.
Built by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and active in the "Mars 2020" mission, the Mars rover "Perseverance" was launched on July 30, 2020, and landed on Mars on February 18, 2021 (EST). It is equipped with a wealth of scientific instruments and, for the first time, an unmanned helicopter, "Ingenuity." Its mission is to collect rock samples from ancient lakebeds on Mars, allowing scientists to better understand traces of past life on the planet.
This set consists of 1132 pieces. Once completed, it measures 23 cm high and 32 cm long. In addition to faithfully recreating the Perseverance rover's shape and six-wheel structure with Technic elements, it also features an articulated suspension system capable of overcoming rugged terrain, 360° steering, a movable robotic arm, a rock sampling device, and a brick-built camera, among other details. Of course, the unmanned helicopter, Ingenuity, is also LEGO-fied! Furthermore, this LEGO Perseverance model can be paired with a mobile phone and a dedicated app for interactive play, using AR technology to make the Perseverance rover appear to drive across a rocky Martian surface on the phone screen. A must-have for space enthusiasts!
