Following the recent release of "Spider-Man (Miles Morales)" and "Spider-Gwen" from the movie "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collectibles division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s action figure brand "S.H.Figuarts" has once again announced its latest product from the film: "Spider-Man 2099"! It is scheduled for release in November 2023.
Spider-Man 2099, who first appeared in the eponymous comic in 1992, is named "Miguel O'Hara." He is a brilliant geneticist living in the parallel world of Earth-928, New York in 2099. In an accident, half of Miguel's DNA was rewritten with a spider's genetic code, and not only did he survive, but he also gained spider-like superpowers. In the new movie "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," Miguel is the leader of the Spider-Society and a key character who stands in opposition to Miles.
This S.H.Figuarts rendition of "Spider-Man 2099" fully recreates the character's red and blue spider-suit from the film, including the large, skull-like spider emblem on his chest, the blade-like structures on his forearms, and the device on his left hand, among other design details. The rich three-dimensional sculpting on the suit's surface and his more muscular physique compared to Miles are excellently rendered. The official images, recreating Spider-Man 2099's charging pose from the trailer, are truly cool! Accessories include an unmasked head sculpt and a detachable web cape, though the head sculpt has a bit too much of a "nice guy" vibe (laughs).
