The popular soft vinyl toy 『MOVIE MONSTER』 series, released by Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., announced the latest product from the movie "Godzilla vs. Mothra," 「Mothra (1992)」, scheduled for release on June 24, 2023.
The design of Mothra, which appeared in "Godzilla vs. Mothra," is based on illustrations by Noriyoshi Ohrai. It is set as the guardian deity of the ancient Earth civilization 「COSMOS」, and its adult form possesses attack methods such as ultrasonic beams and poisonous scales. 12,000 years ago, COSMOS developed a highly advanced civilization using science to control the weather, but this provoked the Earth's retaliation, giving birth to the guardian beast 「Battra」 which sought to destroy their civilization. Mothra and Battra, both of the same species, were forced to confront each other due to their respective missions. Ultimately, although Mothra sealed Battra, COSMOS's civilization and land sank beneath the sea. Now, Mothra and Battra have reawakened due to human activities causing environmental destruction on Earth.
The 「MOVIE MONSTER Mothra (1992)」 is produced in a substantial size with a total length of approximately 255mm. Although it is a lower-priced soft vinyl figure, it still recreates the compound eye patterns and the fuzzy texture of the head and the leading edges of the wings. Even more striking is the overall color application, which uses metallic blue to represent the glowing eyes, and features black, yellow, orange, and white paintwork to recreate most of the wing colors. While not entirely complete, it shows considerable effort for this price range.
