Following the first installment, Freedom Gundam, the new series 'MGSD (MASTER GRADE SD)', which combines MG series technology with SD Gundam proportions, launched by BANDAI SPIRITS Company's HOBBY Division in Japan, today unveiled full product details for its second installment, 'Gundam Barbatos', scheduled for release on October 21, 2023.
The ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos is the mobile suit piloted by protagonist Mikazuki Augus in 'Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans'. It was originally one of 72 Gundam Frame units built 300 years ago during the 'Calamity War' to combat Mobile Armors. Although its armor has deteriorated after centuries of storage, the frame's performance remains as good as new, featuring flexible articulation, high mobility, and high versatility, excelling in close-quarters combat with melee weapons. When linked with Mikazuki's Alaya-Vijnana System, its responsiveness is further enhanced, allowing intuitive control of the mobile suit's posture directly through the brain, enabling explosive movements and power even under gravity.
Standing approximately 11.5 cm tall upon completion, the 'MGSD Gundam Barbatos' condenses MG series technology to create its distinctive 'Gundam Frame' with intricate details and highly flexible articulation. This includes four-axis articulation in the head, an internal movable axis in the torso, hydraulic cylinder linkage on both sides of the waist, shoulder armor deployment linkage, and knee armor bending linkage. The entire model is designed with numerous movable joints and armor linkage mechanisms specifically for the SD proportion, further expanding the mobile suit's range of motion, allowing Barbatos to recreate its wild combat poses using various melee weapons from the series.
The exterior armor parts not only boast high-density detailed sculpting but also achieve a richer expression than the original design through excellent part separation and color molding techniques. The twin-eye cameras feature a double-layer design, allowing the green clear parts to reveal internal mechanical details. The red patterns on the chest, knees, and shoulders are replaced with highly reflective clear parts utilizing 'REFLECTION CUT' technology, creating a luminous effect. Various metallic-colored molded parts use the new 'REAL METALLIC GLOSS INJECTION' technology, bringing them closer to a true metallic sheen.
Accessories include three weapons: the Mace, Katana, and 300mm Smoothbore Gun. The 300mm Smoothbore Gun faithfully recreates its storage transformation mechanism by rotating the barrel 180 degrees. The Mace features a new original mechanism where pressing the long handle causes the tip and four blades to deploy in conjunction.
