Highly anticipated since its initial reveal, LEGO's latest MARVEL Super Hero product from the "LEGO ART" series, "31209 The Amazing Spider-Man", was finally officially unveiled last night (28th)! It is scheduled for release on August 1, 2023.
Building upon the LEGO ART series' original focus on mosaic flat artwork, this set incorporates a more three-dimensional styling, leveraging Spider-Man's ability to climb walls with his superpowers. Comprising 2099 pieces, the overall design creates an interesting and highly dynamic scene where Spider-Man appears to be crawling out of the frame. In addition to meticulously recreating Spider-Man's iconic red and blue suit, the spider emblem on his back, and black web lines, the body lines, sculpted with numerous curved and sloped pieces, are also beautifully rendered. Not only are the fingers on both hands posable, but the head, arguably the soul of the piece, can also be adjusted.
Next, let's look at the clever details beyond Spider-Man himself! These include the green background, created by referencing the comic printing technique "Ben-Day dot," the web lines formed by various interconnected white pieces, 15 spider elements representing the 15th issue of the comic, and the eye-catching Amazing Spider-Man LOGO in the bottom right corner. The visual effect once mounted on the wall is truly impressive, and displaying it alongside the previously released LEGO "76178 Daily Bugle" would undoubtedly be fantastic!
