Following TAMOTU, Japanese model manufacturer Kotobukiya, in collaboration with sculptor MiZ (Koki Mizuno), has once again announced the latest additions to their original robot-themed 'MARUTTOYS' series of plastic model kits: 'MAMORU Black Ver.' and 'MAMORU White Ver.', both scheduled for release in November 2023.
In MiZ's setting, 'MAMORU' is the latest security robot developed by the leading corporation ATARASY in the year 2060. This model was developed to combat robot and android crime, boasting higher specifications compared to other ATARASY products. It is equipped with the latest high-performance motors, granting it exceptional mobility and strength, while also featuring a highly robust structural design. Various hardpoints and auxiliary arm designs on the unit allow for the deployment of multiple armaments, leading to its widespread use in fire departments, police forces, and the military.
Compared to the GK version released in 2019, this plastic model kit rendition of 'MAMORU' has been extensively redesigned by MiZ, significantly increasing the number of exterior details. The 'Black Ver.' and 'White Ver.' differ only in their molded part colors; all other contents are identical. Within its compact and charming 14 cm size, MAMORU appears to be a spherical robot moving on four rollers, but it actually conceals an intricate internal skeletal structure!
MAMORU's frame boasts an impressive 55 points of articulation, allowing it to transform from its spherical 'Normal Mode' into an 'Work Mode' with four deployed legs and two arms. Its waist sides can even extend small auxiliary arms, enabling unexpectedly dynamic and flexible poses! Furthermore, the head comes with interchangeable 'Normal Type' and 'Enhanced Sensor Equipment Type' options, with the 'Enhanced Sensor Equipment Type' also capable of being reversed to form an 'Eliminator Mode'. Numerous parts of the body utilize a common 3mm joint standard, allowing for free customization with various plastic model kits released by Kotobukiya!
